Learning and Development

Your learning at Deloitte is as unique and as mobile as you are !

All at your fingertips at Deloitte

We regard unfulfilled potential as waste bordering on tragedy - it’s anathema to our culture. Which is why a tailored program of continuous personal and career development features strongly within everyone’s individual Deloitte experience, irrespective of their seniority.

We provide a fantastic array of formal, informal and web-based learning options. Generally speaking, you can expect, as a professional, to have 40 learning hours every year, typically including technical training, skills development, industry knowledge building and computer-based training. As a result, you’ll acquire and develop a significant array of professional and personal skills that’ll equip you to meet the many and varied challenges Deloitte has waiting for you further along the way.

However, development isn't just about attending courses. You'll learn most by working on challenging projects with outstanding people. We've invested in building the coaching capability of our staff so these real-time learning opportunities can be fully realized.

So, rest assured, we make sure every ounce of your potential is recognized and exploited - to everyone’s advantage, especially yours.

We bring you the best so that you can be the best !

Global Competency Model

At Deloitte we strive to develop potential into performance. Our global competency model defines the competencies and skills that result in success for our people, and consequently our member firms and our clients. Competency development is critical to developing leaders at Deloitte and is increasingly becoming the foundation for all of our people practices including performance management, career development, learning, recruiting; and international assignments. This model allows us to better focus our investment in our most important and valuable asset, our people.

We hire some of the best and most talented people in the world. Our selection criteria in recruiting include the competencies and shared values that define success for Deloitte as an organization and for you as a professional. Our firm's success, as well as our clients', is dependent upon your ability to deliver consistent, seamless service. In all areas of our organization, competencies such as a commitment to service excellence, an understanding of the market, proven management and leadership effectiveness will be critical to your advancement. Whether you're at the start of your career or you've made partner, do you have what it takes to move forward?

Professional Education

You know, as well as we do, that acquiring professional qualifications is essential to your career development and, let’s face it, your personal self-esteem. So it won’t surprise you to learn that our internal training schemes are second to none in delivering the results that matter.

Local Education

Throughout your career at Deloitte, you can expect to develop your personal and professional qualities by undertaking challenging work supported by great colleagues.

We will provide learning programs at every key stage of your career to make sure that you have the knowledge and skills that you need to succeed. Some of these learning programs will be specific to your part of the business. Others will be firmwide, and will give you the chance to build a network of contacts and friends across the whole of Deloitte.

Coaching & Mentoring

Talent has a way of rubbing off on people. Which is why, thanks to our coaching and mentoring schemes, the great people who join us have a habit of becoming outstanding people. An Deloitte, you can expect a huge amount of personal and professional support from people who are playing right at the top of their game, as well as tapping into experienced performance coaches both within the business and from externally recognized organizations.

Customized Development

We reject a one-size-fits-all approach to learning, because we know it can only lead to one-size-fits-all professionals. Your function, role, level, and prior education and experience define a highly individualized set of learning and development needs. At Deloitte, our learning programs are designed to identify your personal strengths and development areas, then offer opportunities to help you reach the next level across a broad range of technical, industry, professional, and leadership capabilities. Competency assessments, customized development paths; and specialized curricula provide the framework for meeting your personal performance and career goals.

Customization is one of the watchwords of our talent development program. Our people are able to access clearly defined competencies for their level, gain an understanding of their own skill gaps, and create an individual development plan in collaboration with a counselor. Your learning opportunities at Deloitte parallel the needs and challenges of your role, your level, our businesses, and your interests. Certain courses and other resources help you develop a specialized technical skill. Others build professional, leadership, or industry competencies.

What all our programs, courses, and knowledge tools have in common is relevance. Immediate and future value to your job is the key criterion for the learning we design and the licensed courses we select.

Innovative Ways to Learn

We offer leading-edge development solutions that go beyond the lecture-style learning of yesterday. Whether you hone your skills through an on-line simulation or learn from others in an interactive community, the focus is always on building your capabilities—not on making you sit through another PowerPoint presentation.

The variety of professional and technical topics offered by Deloitte is matched only by our diverse blend of available learning methods. The common denominators are effectiveness and convenience. Live and virtual instructor-led classes and 24/7 access to e-learning—online or downloadable self-study courses and just-in-time knowledge tools—give you the options you need to balance your work and personal priorities.

Gone is the old-style lecture with PowerPoint slides and rows of students. We are using a highly customized approach that includes pre-learning assessments that help identify each individual’s unique strengths and development needs. We are employing facilitators who use real-life work and case studies to simulate on-the-job experiences. Then we follow up with meaningful evaluations and post-work that help our people apply new learning back to their job. And we measure results.

Flexibility is built in to allow our people to learn at their own speed, on their own time. With a robust global catalog of over 11,000 hours of virtual classroom and e-learning sessions available 24/7, professionals can construct a learning path that is specifically geared to them and access it at their convenience. We’ve even created many offerings that are delivered to mobile devices, so people can even learn on the go. We’ve also launched online SharePoint learning communities, which, along with our very own online talent networking tool D Street, help our people take advantage of the ‘wisdom of crowds’ by tapping into the rich benefits of social learning.

There is a method to Deloitte’s mix between traditional and virtual instructor-led classes, online and downloadable self-study courses, and other learning options. The strategic intent centers on selecting the method or methods most effective for meeting the learning objectives.
