Inclusion: Strategy for change
Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited hosted the 5th annual Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) Event on 6 March at the 30 Rockefeller Plaza offices in New York City with 250 live and 600 web-stream participants. It was a day to consider overcoming challenges to achieve gender equality in the workplace, marketplace, and community—and the first annual WEPs Leadership Awards. CEO Taj (member of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited) Gianmarco Monsellato was one of five CEOs recognized for their efforts to advance the goals of the WEPs and was honored with the Women’s Empowerment Principles Business Case for Action Award 2013. The WEPs event, which is held in observance of International Women’s Day (March 8), focused on how inclusive business strategies and practices can help to achieve the Women’s Empowerment Principles. Gender and generation; value chain, diversity, inclusion and safety; and innovation driving business and equality were some of the topics discussed by the distinguished keynote speakers and panelists from organizations around the world, including Deloitte Consulting and DTTL Sustainability. A live interview with Ms. Valerie Jarrett, Senior Advisor to President Barack Obama and Chair of the White House Council on Women and Girls, and closing remarks by His Excellence Mr. Ban Ki-moon, United Nations Secretary-General were also highlights of the program.
