5. Learning environment

We reject a one-size-fits-all approach to learning, because we know it can only lead to one-size-fits-all professionals. Your learning begins before you walk in the door. As a firm we are dedicated to the development of our Namibian staff. We do this through providing bursaries to Namibians, particularly those from previously disadvantaged backgrounds, to study toward their qualifications as Namibian chartered accountants. Our past 8-year spending program in this respect has seen spending to the amount of N$ 5, 8 million. In addition, during the past financial year Deloittians globally has spent 192 000 hours or 24 000 days spent on learning.

6. Transformation

Namibia is currently experiencing a severe shortage of qualified chartered accountants. We are pleased to note that we are well placed in this area. Our firm currently has 21 chartered accountants in its employ, of which 9 are qualified black chartered accountants. Deloitte has produced, on average, a third of Namibia’s chartered accountants over the last 5 years, and over 42% of all black chartered accountants in Namibia.

Currently we have 79 employees and over 40 bursars, and over 96% of our staff members are Namibians. Of our staff complement, 62% are black and 56% are female. (July 2011)
