At Deloitte we take a comprehensive approach to work-life fit to better meet the needs of our businesses and our diverse population. Our people have unique work-life needs and aspirations. One-size does not fit all; each person has his/her own version of “what works.” Work-life satisfaction and providing flexible options for when, where, and how individuals and teams work is a top priority for us.

Small Things, Big Difference

We encourage teams at the outset of an engagement – and again at regular intervals thereafter – to openly discuss ongoing flexibility issues they are having and any additional needs for flexibility they anticipate during the engagement. Small Things, Big Difference (STBD) leverages creative scheduling and work practices, enabling teams to align personal needs with client needs and expectations, and identify small, actionable changes to improve work-life fit. Teams currently utilizing this approach, say it has improved their work-life fit and productivity.

Sabbatical program

Deloitte introduced the Sabbatical Program in a continued effort to respond to our professionals’ desire to customize their careers. The program is voluntary and offers: 

  • An opportunity to adjust how your career and life are fitting together and provide more options for achieving your personal and professional goals 
  • Time to refresh and renew yourself to help increase your effectiveness, creativity and productivity 
  • An acknowledgment of your hard work and dedication to Deloitte


Program durations

1 Month Sabbatical
This option provides an opportunity to take unpaid time off for a purpose that is not already covered by another formal leave program. 

3-6 Month Sabbatical
The 3 – 6 months Sabbatical provides an opportunity to pursue personal or professional growth opportunities in the areas of career development or volunteerism, while you continue to receive 40% of your pre-sabbatical base salary. 

Personal Pursuits program

 This program is more comprehensive than traditional alumni employee programs. It allows participants who intend to return to the organization to take up to five years to pursue outside personal goals while remaining connected to the organization. 

Participation in the program does not guarantee employment or re-employment with Deloitte. When participants are ready to return to employment, they must re-apply for available positions for which they are qualified. The program is by application only and participation is approved by the appropriate parties. Participants remain connected to the organization through a number of efforts and continue to receive certain benefits, including: 

  • Paid participation in approved professional associations and coverage of state licensing fees relevant to their former positions
  • Temporary paid internal assignments with Deloitte 

Access to the following benefit programs: LifeWorks®, the Employee Assistance Program, and Mortgage Assistance

Flexible Work Options

Deloitte offers both formal and informal flexible work options. Informal flexibility options allow individuals and teams to make decisions on what works best for them in terms of when, where and how they work. Reduced Workload Arrangements are a formal flexibility option which allows employees to work a less than 100% workload.

Managing parenthood and family

Parental leave 

Deloitte offers generous time off to bond with a new child, whether that child joins your family through birth or adoption. Primary caregivers are offered up to eight weeks of fully-paid parental leave and non-primary caregivers are offered up to three weeks of fully-paid parental leave.

Adoption Assistance/Reimbursement 

We offer counseling and referral services for our people considering adoption and reimbursement of up to $5,000 per child for eligible expenses related to an adoption.

Emergency/Back-up Dependent Care

The program provides access to backup centers in many of our larger cities with an in-home care option for children or adult dependents needing assistance.


Deloitte offers two sabbatical programs: an unpaid one-month sabbatical that can be taken for any reason; and a three- to six-month sabbatical that can be taken to pursue personal or professional growth opportunities in the areas of career development or volunteerism. While on a three- to six-month sabbatical, you continue to receive 40% of your pre-sabbatical base salary.

Tuition Assistance Program

The Tuition Assistance Program provides tuition assistance for approved degree programs, professional certifications and job related courses. Eligibility is based on the specific needs of an individual and the practice he/she works in. 

Mortgage Assistance Program

 If you’re in the market for a mortgage, or you’d like to refinance the one you currently have, our mortgage assistance program can help. We can make the application process easier and help eliminate red tape, confusion and long delays. We can also provide a variety of financing alternatives at attractive rates that can be tailored to meet your needs. Available whether you’re purchasing a new home, refinancing your current residence, purchasing a vacation home or buying investment property. 

Discount Purchase Program

Deloitte’s Discount Purchase Program provides professionals with access to discounts at over 28,000 retailers ― you may even select up to five friends or family members for access to Deloitte’s discounts. 

Pet Insurance

From routine office visits to significant medical incidents, the Veterinary Pet Insurance (VPI) provides protection for pets when they need it most. Depending upon the options you choose, your pet's policy can include coverage for a range of conditions related to: 


  • Illnesses (including cancer)
  • Routine medical care, including vaccinations, de-worming, spay/neuter, and more
  • Policyholders are free to use any licensed veterinarian anywhere, even while away from home.

Managing unexpected change

Disaster Relief Fund

The Deloitte Disaster Relief Fund was established to provide immediate economic assistance to our professionals who have suffered a significant loss due to a natural disaster and have no other source of cash to begin putting their lives back together after the disaster.

Employee Assistance Program

From time to time we all face stressful situations or emotional problems. Whether you or family members face marital difficulties, gambling problems, learning disabilities, drug or alcohol dependency, or other problems, the Employee Assistance Program (LAP) offers support and guidance. An independent organization that specializes in developing and administering these programs, offers you access to resources that have no connection with Deloitte, thus providing strict confidentiality. 


The LifeWorks® Program is designed to provide Deloitte professionals with referrals and resource assistance to help face life's challenges.
