I’d like to learn more about what people in Deloitte FAS actually do … can you explain?
Deloitte FAS is a relatively young business with more than 1,500 U.S. professionals who deal with some of the toughest issues facing businesses today. That can mean detecting exposure to fraudulent activity, implementing anti-money laundering compliance programs, advising counsel in litigation, and helping companies determine asset value in a rigorous regulatory environment. It can also mean preparing companies for a divestiture or acquisition, or helping financially distressed companies through a reorganization or liquidation process.
Deloitte FAS is a fast-growing entity, and one of the most excited and varied among the Deloitte U.S. firms. Within Deloitte FAS, we advise clients on complex financial and economic issues such as Anti-Fraud, Anti Money Laundering, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, Corporate Investigations and more. Our Business Valuation and Tangible Asset Valuation professionals work closely with clients to help them quantify and articulate value for taxation, transaction, financing and strategic management purposes. Our Corporate Finance Advisory practice offers sophisticated investment banking advice to companies pursuing complex middle market merger, sale and divestiture transactions. We help bridge the gap between the domestic financial advisory boutiques and the major investment banks. Our Reorganization Services group helps companies that are under performing or facing financial loss to weigh their options and pursue the path that best meets their needs. The Real Estate Consulting group helps companies make better real estate business decisions. Our Capital Projects Consulting team helps clients improve the return on investment of capital construction projects.

What do you look for in a Deloitte FAS candidate?
We look for true team players with the ability to develop effective relationships; people who pay extreme attention to detail; people who are both insightful and investigative by nature; people who apply critical thinking to a problem; people who get the job done.
In each Deloitte FAS service area, knowledge of the consulting process and of engagement management techniques is helpful, and a strong commitment to business, client relationships and practice development is essential. We also value communication skills, as we frequently interview top management, legal counsel and business owners; prepare and present business proposals; and write offering memoranda and engagement letters.
For example, many of our service areas require strong communication and finance accounting skills. These include Litigation & Dispute Consulting, Anti-Fraud Consulting, Anti-Money Laundering Consulting, Business Intelligence Services, Corporate Investigations and Document Review Services. Other areas, such as Analytic & Forensic Technology and Deloitte Discovery, also require a strong technology background.
Team members often work on site at a client’s office, so presentation skills and written skills are critical. Ideal applicants are willing to travel and have a strong interest in fraud investigations and legal issues.
In Corporate Finance Advisory, we look for people with a background in finance, accounting or economics. Our investment bankers must be able to build complex financial models, perform in-depth industry and market research, and analyze companies from various perspectives.
Successful Business Valuation and Tangible Asset Valuation Services professionals will possess strong analytical skills, experience with valuation theory and applications, and the ability to prepare high quality valuation reports. They should have backgrounds in finance, accounting, economics or engineering. Practitioners in our Real Estate Consulting practice have similar skills and backgrounds, however with a focus on the real estate industry. They often have earned designations such as MAI, ASA, CRE, FRICS/MRICS and PE. Our Capital Projects Consulting professionals have practical industry experience in the capital construction process, and usually hold advanced degrees in engineering, architecture, business, accounting, and law.
Candidates for our Reorganization Services group should have a solid understanding of corporate bankruptcy and should demonstrate good business judgment, an ability to make decisions, and a passion for turnaround management.
What kind of work flexibility will I have?
We’ve seen that when our people succeed personally, they are better able to bring value to their clients. The demonstration of this philosophy is the success of the Deloitte U.S. Firms’ work/life balance and flexibility programs, which have earned us recognition as one of the best places to work, and our role as a leader in the retention and advancement of women and diverse professionals.
How much will I travel?
A position with Deloitte FAS will require you to frequently be on site at your client’s office, so depending on which service line you support, considerable travel may be required.
